Whole of Home Assessments
Sustainable Design Assessments, as their name suggest, assesses a development to ensure an adequate level of sustainability features have been incorporated into the design.
Whole of Home Assessments
What is a Whole of Home Report?
Whole of Home Reports are a relatively new requirement that has been introduced by the 2022 National Construction Code(2022 NCC) and will be required for residential projects designed after 1st May 2024. The 2022 NCC introduces a household energy budget which aims to limit the amount of energy that is taken from the electricity grid by a new home. The Whole of Home assessment considers the following:
Following the assessment, a score of 60 out of 100 is required to be achieved with a score of 100 out of 100 a theoretical carbon neutral design.
If a design has relatively high energy use such as low efficiency heating and cooling, large pools and the use of less efficient hot water systems it is unlikely that a score of 60 out of 100 will be achieved. In this instance, the use of more efficient appliances and solar PV systems can be used to increase the score.
Why and when do I need a Whole of Home Report
Whole of Home Reports are a requirement of the 2022 National Construction Code and will be required for all residential projects designed after 1st May 2024 in all states except for NSW (in NSW, Basix replaces the Whole of Home).
What else can a Whole of Home Report be called
Whole of Home Reports can go by a variety of names such as:
energy ratings
energy efficiency ratings
WoH reports
How do I get a Whole of Home Report completed
Once the building permit drawings have been prepared and shared, the Green Rate Team will review and provide a detailed quotation. Once approved, the Green Rate Team will begin the assessment utilizing the following steps:
Why does getting a good quality Whole of Home Report matter
Obtaining a good quality Whole of Home Report will ensure that the solutions selected are practical, cost effective and locally available.
The Green Rate Difference
The Green Rate Team take a ‘boots on the ground’ approach when assessing any development. Extensive industry experience combined with constantly researching new building practices, products and local regulations, we ensure that our assessments are not just written to pass Council review, but to be a useable, realistic and cost effective plan for building a sustainable development.
